studio aisslinger has completed an envy-inducing office for drinks company jägermeister in wolfenbüttel, germany. designed around playfulness and creativity, the new headquarters is a welcome antithesis to grey, uniform workplaces.

the world of work is changing, and with this office design, studio aisslinger strives to cater for it. ‘today, good work is not simply measured by the quantity of output. unusual, weird ideas are sought as the first step towards an open future full of possibilities. thinking outside the box means breaking away from conventions and sluggish habits, striking new paths. for such playful creativity, the familiar, preferably neutral workplace does not help’, says the studio.
to build this new workspace the designers have done away with the typical chair-desk setup and have instead created a space that allows people to move around freely. rather than grey office cubicles, the space is injected with a variety of colors, textures and playful features. a huge orange wall invites staff to exert some energy by playing basketball, while a diversity of seating areas afford different levels of interaction to suit everyone’s preferred way of working.
‘the workplace thus becomes a playground, giving room to trial and error as well as providing a stage for playful virtuosity. innovation and wit, irritation and surprise become part of the production process. whether together at the big table, in small groups in the break-off units or singularly plural, withdrawn and yet as part of the community in little work capsules – the play instinct becomes the force driving creation,’ says studio aisslinger.
