La Bergerie by Mykonos Architects Reimagines Island Rural Living

La Bergerie, conceived by Mykonos Architects, emerged from the strategic amalgamation of three adjacent properties in Mykonos, Greece. The property, initially acquired on the northeast side, expanded with the procurement of two adjoining properties, including a three-bedroom summer residence and a six-apartment complex designed for rentals. Emphasizing Cycladic aesthetics and the preservation of the Mykonian lifestyle, the project aimed to establish ‘winter quarters’ with a yoga area, farm, and vegetable garden. The complex was repurposed to authentically embody the spirit of the island.

La Bergerie’s Transformation Balances Tradition and Innovation

The challenge for the studio lay in revitalizing Mykonos’ essence without resorting to imitation. Over two years, the environment was curated to achieve harmony, with materials like wood and iron allowed to age naturally. The transformation of the three-bedroom residence into the Yoga House involved meticulous design, including an open area, dedicated yoga room, and powder room. Earth-toned finishes and olive wood flooring seamlessly blend with the landscape.

The architectural integration of the Yoga House involved outdoor corridors leading through lush gardens to secluded spaces like a patio beneath an ancient olive tree. No disruption to existing vegetation reflects a commitment to nature, with artisanal rope veils providing shading for the terraces. This approach ensures the project harmonizes with its surroundings while evolving over time.
