IDEE architects constructs Ajisai Hill House on Elevated Terrain

Ajisai Hill House by IDEE Architects is perched on a steep mountain slope, granting panoramic views of a valley, a golf course, and the Tam Dao mountain range in Vietnam. The challenging terrain presents design complexities due to its elevated location. Spanning a 1000 sqm land area, following the client’s vision, the residence involves an open, nature-centric dwelling that seamlessly integrates with the surroundings, ensuring privacy for an extended family requiring five bedrooms and additional spaces.

The design divides the property into upper and lower blocks. The elevated upper block, strategically positioned for optimal natural light and ventilation, comprises the main living spaces. Meanwhile, the lower block houses auxiliary functions and a garage, serving as the primary access point. A dedicated elevator block connects the lower and upper sections via a steel bridge, guiding visitors through the garden, swimming pool, and front yard.

Steel, Stone, and Wood craft the main house’s structure

Drawing from traditional Vietnamese architectural influences, the design team constructs the main house with a steel frame, stone, and natural wood, featuring symmetrical spaces and rows of columns. The strategic placement of functional blocks on varying elevated levels gradually ascends towards the rear, culminating in a garden area with a basketball court.

The house’s elongated design, with intersecting circulation spaces, ensures ample natural light and a connection to nature. Two small gardens within the structure enhance the indoor-outdoor relationship, while large roofs and balconies act as buffers, facilitating cross-ventilation. The central void space is optimized for privacy in the rooms, and the layout, visible from above, showcases distinct blocks connected along a unified axis, creating a harmonious blend with the breathtaking natural backdrop.
