commissioned by the daito trust construction, sou fujimoto‘s pavilion for house vision 2 is a response to ‘redefining the rental house’. creating a model that visualizes as a interconnected system of pathways, common areas and plant-filled terraces, the aim of the timber pavilion shows minimized private spaces to provide spacious shared spaces, such as kitchens, baths, theater rooms and gardens.
the dull corridors are transformed into vibrant composite spaces
the concept of rental housing has always been configured so that space for exclusive occupancy is maximized while common areas are confined to passageways. sou fujimoto has envisioned a solution where unlike house sharing, the living room and other spaces outside of one’s own room are shared with others, and then recombined to provide a glimpse of a comfortable and relaxing rental housing.
