based by the crystal-clear waters of the mexican caribbean, sordo madaleno arquitectos had designed the grand hyatt playa del carmen hotel. based on a irregular site, adjacent to the ocean and a 140m beachfront, the construction had to be sensitive to the natural mangrove that is already existing. taking advantage of natural vegetation of the site, the establishment has since been built around this mangrove to lessen the environmental impact. complemented by the pristine settings, the building facilitates 314 rooms with ocean views, 36 suites, two restaurants, three bars / lounge, spa and five swimming pools.

the arrangement of the buildings is divided into three blocks

the architectural program has been divided into three main blocks. the first consists of a connection between the street and the hotel; achieved through an interior vehicular and pedestrian street bordered by retail shops and generating an urban ambiance. meanwhile the second block, rectangular in form, is located at the center of the ground and functions as an element of visual and spatial connection. with the mangroves based at the core, and the architecture built around it, a peaceful and lush garden setting has been created for the surrounding hotels rooms. furthermore, the last block lies closest to the the ocean and houses the entertainment areas, pools and terraces.
