SLETH inserts copper-clad getaway cabin into danish forest

located in a forest near aarhus, denmark, ‘the author’s house’ by SLETH emerges as a getaway cabin. the brown-reddish volume, clad in copper façade, takes shape as a working-living space that provides its inhabitants with a calm, inspiring ambiance. furthermore, the project coexists with the surrounding nature through a muted color and material palette, while the sliding openings and the skylights maximize the sweeping view towards the forest.SLETH inserts copper-clad getaway cabin into danish forestall images courtesy of rasmus hjortshøj – COAST

settled in a natural protected area, ‘the author’s house’ by SLETH blurs the boundaries of inside and outside, allowing a seamless transition between them. the interior unravels following the character of the exterior, utilizing copper and wood while sharing a mottled stone flooring. meanwhile, all the walls serve as bookcases, and the dinesen douglas wooden planks function as the dominant element of the interior, including the kitchen, ceilings, staircase, windows, walls, and furniture, generating a warm and relaxing ambiance.

‘we needed a good quality massive wood which was affordable, yet exclusive by look and feel. it was important to the client to give the house a massive and solid feel and look, which we found in the dinesen wood,’ adds søren leth, one of the founders.

slightly recessed openings cover the copper façade allowing plenty of natural light to enter the interior and improving ventilation.
as time passes by, the copper will oxidize gradually, transforming into a more green hue that will allow it to integrate smoothly into the surrounding scenery.SLETH inserts copper-clad getaway cabin into danish forestSLETH inserts copper-clad getaway cabin into danish forestSLETH inserts copper-clad getaway cabin into danish forest
