boston-based practice sebastian mariscal has designed a building for people currently under construction in an urban quarter of allston. the driving force behind the design is the complete rejection of the automobile which has left so many cityscapes scarred with roads and parking lots. all the space of the corner lot was to be conserved throughout the construction of the project so that there is an equal amount of public space, plazas, and gardens as there were beforehand. the board form concrete shell defines various orthogonal geometries that break down the large multi-family housing into a more digestible human scale and reveals hidden corners and interstitial areas to be used by private inhabitants or shared amongst the public.
