SCI-Arc renews full-tuition scholarship for european architects

first established for the 2016-2017 academic year, SCI-Arc, the southern california institute of architecture, is set to continue its scholarship opportunity which enables european architects to further expand their knowledge of contemporary architecture in los angeles, california. with over half of its student population from over 46 various countries, the program aims to unite talented architects from around the world by supporting them financially. for the academic year of 2017-2018, the SCI-Arc european union 2017 scholarship will cover 100% of the first year in the M.Arch 2 program, with extensions available depending on GPA results.

with SCI-Arc’s international presence continuing to grow, the school’s scholarship strives to enable top talent from europe to study in california. eligible candidates must demonstrate citizenship of any of the 28 countries within the european union. as well, they must have proof of earning an undergraduate degree, between january 1 2013 and august 1 2017, that is equivalent to the united states’s undergraduate degree in architecture.

initially started by graduate program chair elena manferdini in 2016, the initiative aims to engage european architects with SCI-Arc’s renowned and unique culture of architectural innovation. elena manferdini, originally from italy, has taught in the M.Arch 2 program for over 14 years, ‘I am proud to be able to offer this opportunity again for the upcoming academic year. I know firsthand how the trust of an institution can someone’s career. as an international student myself, having been the recipient of similar scholarships allowed me to pursue an education and shaped my adult life as an architect. today, as graduate chair of one of the most prestigious architectural schools in the USA, nothing makes me prouder than being able to support other young talented individuals in their academic growth at SCI-Arc.‘

as a professional master of architecture degree, SCI-Arc’s M.Arch 2 program is tailored for students who have attained an undergraduate degree in architecture and are eager to focus their education on contemporary tools, techniques, and technologies and to expand their experience in digital design, fabrication, and critical thinking. the initiative is particularly beneficial to internationals seeking to progress their careers in the united states. with the M.Arch 2, which is accredited by the national architectural accrediting board (NAAB), graduates qualify for architectural licensure for professional practice in the US.

within the M.Arch 2 design studios, students are propelled into an environment that advocates for advanced design exploration and an educational model that encourages close collaboration. as part of this, students are engaged with an array of distinguished faculty members and critics including hernan diaz-alonso, elena manferdini, tom wiscombe, eric owen moss, thom mayne, marcelyn gow, marcelo spina, and peter trummer. furthermore, boasting one of the largest fabrication facilities within any architecture school in the US, SCI-Arc features 12,000 square feet of state-of-the-art workshop space. included in this are the analog shop, robot house, and magic box which holds 17 3D-printers, two CNC mills, and six laser cutters.
