earlier this year, the SANAA-designed ‘vitra factory building’ (see designboom’s full coverage of the facility here) was completed, after construction first commenced on the facility in 2010. conceived as a presentation venue, production area and storage building for the swiss furniture manufacturer vitra at their campus in weil am rhein, germany, the ‘vitra factory building’ is defined by an almost entirely circular footprint, composed of two adjoining semi-circular concrete shells. the façade of the structure is wrapped by a distinct curtain of undulating acrylic panels that don’t fully touch the ground, which makes the architecture of SANAA’s scheme–though it is the largest of the buildings on the vitra campus–appear as if it is light and floating.

now, renowned architectural photographer iwan baan presents his perspective of the site, with images of the ‘vitra factory building’ in full operation, offering never-before-seen aerial views of the establishment in the context of its countryside location.
