korean architecture office SAMOO has been chosen to complete the first phase of a vast development in daejeon that will become a global hub for the studies of science. the masterplan, which forms the IBS headquarters, is connected with a pedestrian ring that connects the site’s major buildings.
at the center of the plan, a public plaza provides an open space that enables and encourages communication and interaction. in addition, cultural facilities – including restaurants and convention centers – are located nearby. the scheme has been shaped in accordance to simulations that took into account solar radiation and natural wind paths. integrated vertical louvers across the proposed façades provide adequate shading, while indoor atria encourage natural ventilation.
