architectural laboratory, SA lab, has developed a compact module for living, based on the typology of the traditional scandinavian grill house. the ‘FLEXSE’ has been designed to be versatile in it’s function, accommodating a number of possible uses, and to be able to adapt to various weather conditions. during winter or in colder weather, the internal space is cosy and comfortable to cook and relax inside, while in summer the open terrace becomes a welcoming space to spend time outdoors.

the design by SA lab maximizes the usable floor area, while also keeping the footprint to a minimum. FLEXSE can be utilised for a number of different functions, such as a small BBQ house, a sauna, a guest house, or even a compact house. due to it’s small size, the unit can be easily located in either the countryside or within an urban city environment, potentially becoming a small café, shop, or office pod.

the module can be assembled in parts on site and consists of 100% recyclable materials. the structure can be positioned on different foundations – concrete slab, metal piers, etc., which allows for placing it in the most remote areas, even on water. the module is customizable inside and outside with numerous types of finishing materials are available for choosing. overall, FLEXSE aims to provide a very adaptable space that can be tailored to the requirements of the end-user.
