conceived at the architecture department of interdesign, ‘ochoalcubo’ (eight squared) is a pioneering project in the design of architecture in chile. its name symbolizes the selection of 64 prestigious architects that will create eight sets of eight houses, or 64 houses in total. ‘ochoquebradas’ is the third and fourth stage of the ‘ochoalcubo’ project.

located close to los vilos, in the chilean region of coquimbo, we already had the opportunity of presenting the first completed house in ochoquebradas — alejandro aravena’s ‘primitive’ house — and, as we continue following the project, we like to share these images found on ochoalcubo’s facebook page detailing ryue nishizawa’s soon-to-be-completed house.
ryue nishizawa’s design features one of the key elements of his work: a structure that seeks to achieve harmony with the landscape. on it, an undulating concrete slab — 30 centimeters thick and 50 meters long — seamlessly floats over concrete beams. with its waves directed towards the sea, the house creates a dialogue with its terrain from the land to the water. inside, the project wants to achieve maximum transparency by using large sheets of laminated glass without any frames, resulting in very little perimeter walls. ryue nishizawa’s wave-like, dune-like house in ochoquebradas is scheduled to open soon.
