expanding al dhakira, a city built on an inlet of the persian gulf, a new mixed development has been configured by RRC studio architects. located just 60km away from the capital of doha in qatar, the project is driven by the country’s need for growth to accommodate the 2022 fifa world cup event, while still preserving its natural landscape. beginning at the sea shore inward, a continuous increase in density of 275.000 sqm new residential and commercial settlements has been proposed. a main feature along the coastal area is an urban park, which is intended to host public functions and concerts. this unique landscape strip helps to connect the city from north to south, respecting the natural habitat and protected areas of mangroves and delicate local fauna.

different housing typologies blend the residential design with the surrounding environment and existing buildings. public and green spaces are intended to promote a sense of community, where numerous activities and relaxation can occur. representing the operative core of the city, the commercial zone is arranged around the renewed sports field. the combined mix of traditional architectural elements with new technical solutions, generates a pointed focus around energy conservation and sustainability for the new development.
