private island waterpark features colorfully clad 135-foot-tall waterslide

royal carribean international has opened a new waterpark boasting a series of record-breaking attractions that are as extreme as they are colorful. featuring the tallest slide in north america, and the caribbean’s largest wave pool, the park is the result of a two-year, $250 million transformation of the line’s private island in the bahamas.

at the heart of the brightly-hued getaway is a purpose-designed ‘thrill waterpark’, daring the most adrenaline-seeking guests to conquer two immense towers with 13 waterslides. standing at 135-foot-tall, daredevil’s peak is the tallest waterslide in north america.

it is one of seven slides that spiral down from a colorfully clad tower which forms the centerpiece to the park’s design. characterized by its skeletal infrastructure, spectrum of irregularly placed slats expose a series of interconnecting pipes which support multiple platforms where several other slides unwind.

a smaller tower in a similar style features six multi-rider slides: including the twister, a winding tube slide for two sharing a raft; and the slingshot, a zero-gravity slide for four; and the four-lane splash speedway racing slides.

elsewhere, a helium filled structure attached to a basked, designed to mimic a hot air balloon, offers the highest vantage point in the bahamas. securely tethered to the ground by cable, the signature attraction floats up to 450 feet above the park.

the highly anticipated waterpark is the first in the cruise line’s ‘new perfect day island collection’ of next-level private destinations around the world. the island also has a 1,600-foot-long zip-line that crisscrosses the island and features the only splash water landing in the region, as well as the caribbean’s largest wave pool.

while most of the island’s features are now open to passengers, some will open in december. royal caribbean has a host of perfect day destinations lined up, with islands locations under development in asia, australia and the caribbean.
