within the village of challuabamba in ecuador, rodas cordero arquitectos has designed the ‘polo house‘, taking shape as a small cantilevered refuge amid the lush vegetation. the design seeks to generate a living environment that is closely connected to nature. therefore, the 110 sqm dwelling adopts an open character to provide generous views towards the lush mountainous surroundings, but remains unaffected by the high humidity of the region thanks to its elevated position.

following the clients’ requests, rodas cordero arquitectos has designed the residence as a unified environment that is closely interlinked with all the vegetation around it. upon observing and analyzing the qualities of the region, such as the numerous streams and willow trees, the studio decided to preserve the natural state and shape of the site, raising the residential steel structure on a platform. large floor-to-ceiling windows, slide open to establish a connection between the social area and a large outdoor terrace and thus achieving always being in communication with their natural environment.
