Mayoral Logistics Centre Building captured by fernando alda
Spanish practice System Arquitectura introduces its latest project, the new Mayoral Logistics Centre Building in Intelhorce, Málaga. The recently completed structure for textile production, captured by architectural photographer Fernando Alda, sits next to the protected warehouse of Vazquez Molezún, rehabilitated by the same team in 2018 for logistic use. Its proximity to this building motivated the studio to enable the first step in a series of interventions: arching the new complex’s facades to separate it from nearby developments as much as possible and, more importantly, diluting the difference in height.

how system arquitectura blends transparency and opacity
A massive volume like the new Logistics Centre Building, so close to the existing Vazquez Molezún warehouse, had to be treated with the necessary sensitivity to integrate with its neighbor, argues the team at System Arquitectura. This integration is not only at an urban level but also at a conceptual level, seeking a common language rooted in the textile industry, which both represent. Translating such an impression required the architects to envision the building as an envelope that dialogues with the original warehouse, exploring the concept of fabric transparency, opacity, and perception. At different vantage points, the rhythmic arching of the facades transforms, enabling a dynamic aesthetic across the design.
