THE ART OF INDULGING AT mandarin oriental, lago di como

milanese design studio reveria (more on their website here) has completed the total renovation of the interiors of villa della quercia, one of mandarin oriental, lago di como’s major villas, and of the outdoor area of l ̃aria restaurant. located on the shores of italy‘s lake como, the resort welcomes guests in an immersive atmosphere combining nature, landscapes, colors, lights and sounds. by studying these natural languages, laura delfina sari and diego paccagnella, directors of reveria studio, have given substance to the instinctive characteristics of the area through their design choices.

for the interiors of mandarin oriental, lago di como’s villa della quercia, the studio has developed a refined scheme that accompanies outdoor life with fluidity and elegance. the reflections of the lake water are replicated thanks to a detailed study of light, systems and forms of lighting. meanwhile hues that reference the surroundings have been translated into a palette of spaces, materials and fabrics. alongside the principles of natural beauty, italian artisan tradition infuses the entire space, found in the choice of furniture, works of art and decorative elements.reveria studio infuses mandarin oriental lago di como's interiors with italian artisan traditionall images by helenio barbetta, courtesy reveria design studio

THE RESORT’S NEW INTERIORS and restaurant terrace by reveria

the charm of the landscape around mandarin oriental, lago di como resonates in the atmosphere of the renovated villa della quercia, in the absolute attention to details and in the choice of each object that makes up the whole environment. italian style guides reveria studio’s overall design, from the clean shapes and material consistency, to the handcrafted design objects found throughout the space. the villa’s floors have been replaced with a typical oak parquet that plays with the classic bindello, a distinctive pattern of italian villas. meanwhile, the long existing walls, which measure over 12 meters, have been transformed into internal landscapes thanks to a metal structure that can contain works of art, mirrors, decorative elements and wallpaper made with the traditional silk of como.

each work of art in the villa is the result of the collaboration with milanese art gallery the pool NYC. additionally, artists have specifically conceived and created their works for this interior project after having being invited to personally experience lake como and the resort itself. each book has been carefully selected by the rizzoli bookstore from new york, while handcrafted objects in marble, glass and ceramic made in collaboration with italian artisans complete the unique space, which feels more like a home than hotel. as a reference to the east, some decorative details, textiles and objects from flea markets have been deliberately inserted to create a bridge between the origins of the mandarin oriental hotel group and the italian artisan tradition.

set in a green garden with convivial islands overlooking the lake, l ̃aria restaurant strikes the perfect balance between intimacy and sociability, italian and oriental culture, tradition and marine style. amid the vernacular architecture of the area, studio reveria has conceived the new outdoor area of the restaurant of the mandarin oriental, lago di como, now led by chef massimiliano blasone. the terrace is infused with contemporary design elements that coexist with the classic soul of the place, featuring simple, linear, elegant shapes and precious, authentic, welcoming materials.
