Costa Corasol Residences takes form in Playa del Carmen

Overlooking the Caribbean, Costa Corasol Residences by Cuaik CDS emerges from the coastline of Playa del Carmen. With a plan for six apartment buildings and a variety of amenities, the project creates a dynamic beachfront space for its guests and residents. The tropical spirit of the location is channeled through the studio’s application of locally sourced materials, creating a complex that seeks to embody the energy of the beachside environment.

Exploring the space through color and tone

Designed by Cuaik CDS (see here), Costa Corasol is marked by single treatment balconies and terraces that wrap around the exterior façade, creating depth through structures inspired by construction scaffolding. The restaurant is covered by a series of ribbed vaults, exposing several glass bottles carefully placed in arched shelves which bring touches of color to the soft hues that surround the scenery. Between the terracotta tiles, the hanging plants, and the eclectic finishes on the dining tables, a blend of tones are woven into the environment.

At Costa Corasols’ exclusive ‘owners club’, members can discover K de Kilo’s crochet and wooden art pieces. Moreover, visitors and guests can also find themselves enjoying the restaurant, outdoor gym, pool area, the kid’s club and a plaza.

Locally sourced materials bring visual harmony

To combat the beachline’s tension between urban and natural space, the buildings prioritize the implementation of local materials. By crafting a tropical look using local materials, Cuaik CDS embellishes the space with natural qualities and finishes. By doing so, the architectural firm leverages a more cost and energy effective method of integrating built space into the natural landscape.
