situated in a rural area, amongst some detached houses in belgium, ‘residence DDE’ by govaert & vanhoutte architects is a minimalist concrete villa complete with an open terrace and swimming pool. the house combines a larger ground floor with a half in size upper level and a smaller basement. the site’s irregular shape forms a long, tree-flanked driveway that pushes the building further down the terrain. being past the neighboring houses, the home offers unobstructed views towards the surrounding landscape.'residence DDE' by govaert & vanhoutte architects is a minimal concrete villa in rural belgiumall images © tim van de velde

past the long, tree-flanked driveway, govaert & vanhoutte architects introduces a long concrete wall where the entrance is located. the ground level encloses the garage and laundry room on the north side, and a small, semi-closed office space south from the entrance. next to the office, one big open space contains the kitchen, living and dining rooms. the open space and office are completely glazed towards the garden, which allows plenty of natural light inside and connects it to the outside. the adjacent terrace is covered by the overhanging upper level, sheltering the glass façade from the sun, but also covering the inhabitants from the rain while being on the terrace. an east-west orientated swimming pool lies on the corner of the terrace.'residence DDE' by govaert & vanhoutte architects is a minimal concrete villa in rural belgium

at the center of the ground floor, an open staircase, bathed in natural light thanks to a large north-orientated window, leads to the upper level. this level contains a generous master bedroom with a bathroom & dressing room, as well as two more bedrooms for the children and a third guest room, all of which share one bathroom on the north west. each bedroom has access towards the south-faced terrace, and views on the garden and the landscape. the basement contains some storage, a technical room, and a multipurpose room.govaert & vanhoutte architects minimal concrete villa in rural belgium 'residence DDE' by govaert & vanhoutte architects is a minimal concrete villa in rural belgium
