TAZU Tsuruhashi by Stod / Studio Taichi Okamoto Design

TAZU Tsuruhashi restaurant by Stod / Studio Taichi Okamoto Design transforms an old tenant space beneath an elevated structure that lies between Tsuruhashi Station and Tamatsukuri Station in Osaka. Situated in a bustling commercial neighborhood with a diverse mix of markets, retail, and residences, the project emerges from a need expressed by workers in the area for a relaxing space to unwind after work hours. The existing brickwork and historic elements provide a foundation for the design, reimagined in a modern context. The project aims to capture the essence of the long-standing elements in Tsuruhashi, integrating features from the south-side market, warehouses, and the area’s inherent diversity.

interior Balances traditional and modern Japanese Aesthetics

The design presents a diverse character through materials, furniture arrangement, and the presentation of facilities and wiring, creating a space with a nuanced nod to Japanese aesthetics while respecting the local environment. Steel with electric zinc plating and roughened cedar surfaces contribute to an eclectic atmosphere. Tables crafted from hardboard add a warm and inviting touch. The entrance features a steel shelf with an electric zinc-plated finish, displaying pots and bottles. The overarching objective is to establish TAZU Tsuruhashi by Stod / Studio Taichi Okamoto Design as a cherished community eatery, infusing vibrancy into the surrounding area.
