peter marino creates giant explosion of louis vuitton logos for london boutique 

parisian maison louis vuitton has redesigned its london store on new bond street following a 14-month renovation. the boutique, which has been completely transformed by new york architect peter marino, opened its doors on thursday (october 14th) with a literal explosion of color.

outside, a gigantic explosion of louis vuitton‘s monogram icons takes over the stores’ frontage in a full spectrum of colour, setting the tone for the in-store experience. louis vuitton’s 17,500 sq ft london maison has been completely reimagined, starting from its reconstructed exterior to its new generation of interiors.

inside, a double-height gallery-cum-shop, featuring 43 artworks throughout — from 25 artists including site-specific commissions from sarah crowner, jim lambie, josh sperling, farhad moshiri, and matt gagnon. there are also installations from james turrell, andreas gursky, alex katz, tracey emin, among others.

on the lower ground floor a colourful space dedicated to men’s ready to wear and shoes by louis vuitton men’s artistic director virgil abloh is overlooked by gursky’s ‘dusselstrand.’ on the third floor james turrell’s light installation tall glass (2009), an immersive led screen which turns from purple to yellow, orange and red, perfectly encapsulates the meditative mood of the store.

the renovation includes a sweeping double helix-shaped staircase crafted in cerused oak, which stands as a sculpture, slightly off-centre. in the main atrium, beneath four cocoon chairs by the campana brothers, is a space is dedicated to a permanent selection of objets nomades, the collection of designer travel and home-related objects that launched in 2012.

these giant architectural spaces feature seating and furniture custom made by marino. the architect has also curated a series of vintage pieces from designers including enzo mari and pierre paulin.
