perspacetive renovates house in thailand with wooden battens + natural stone walls

architecture firm perspacetive has renovated a 30-year-old house in bangkok, thailand, with wooden battens and natural stone walls on its exterior. titled ‘S71 house’, the project transforms the existing building into a private refuge within the busy urban context. white metal completes the material palette, elegantly contrasting the other two materials of the exterior.all images by anan naruphantawat

perspacetive has developed the concept of the building form based on the context of the location of the building as well as the way of life of the homeowners, who love privacy. ‘the concept that we have used to determine the area of ​​the house is to determine the position of the walls of this house,’ notes the bangkok-based studio. ‘there are three main types of walls which are: open wall, solid wall, and semi-open wall. these three types of walls will be interpreted and used in different ways in different parts of this house.’

a solid fence on the front side of the plot obscures visibility and enhances privacy inside the home. perspacetive has created a pocket garden area in the north side of the garage to plant trees, while fence trees have also been planted to create a green wall around the house that will grow in time. the exterior of the home comprises natural stone walls on the ground level, while the upper part features a combination of wooden battens and white metal.

when entering the house, one encounters the living room, where the architects have opened the ceiling to the second floor to create a high ceiling area. past the living room, a multifunctional area connects to a wooden balcony where residents can sit back and relax. the upper level houses all bedrooms, complete with walk-in closets, bathrooms, and working desks.
