pepa diaz arquitecta has completed  ‘casa dos lenguajes’ / ‘two languages house’, a private residence in spain that develops around a transparent core. the core, where the main living area is located, is clad in a glazed façade that allows plenty of natural light to enter its interior. at the same time, the glazed façade establishes a direct visual connection with the open terrace and swimming pool outside. all images by david frutos

in ‘casa dos lenguajes’ / ‘two languages house’, pepa diaz arquitecta has combined two contemporary architectural languages that harmoniously coexist. the solid, compact parts of the building enclose the more fixed functions, such as the bedrooms, bathrooms and kitchen. at the same time, social, fluid spaces that serve the need of meeting both outside and inside, such as the living and dining room, are located in the part of the house characterized by a lighter language.

the lush vegetation, trees and shrubs on the exterior of the house create a domestic oasis that allows the inhabitants to maintain their connection with nature. the solid volumes of the building, clad in ceramic coating, are integrated into the topography of the site. between them, the transparent, breathable core that connects the home’s different spaces allows abundant ventilation and natural lighting in, while creating direct visual connections with the surrounding vegetation.
