located in the venice neighborhood of los angeles, ‘radius house’ by local architecture design studio pentagon is a context-specific, two-story residence featuring sculptural interior spaces and articulated facades. the 350 sqm (3700 sqft) home combines crisp angles, curved surfaces, and large picture windows in its design that create a dialogue between indoor and outdoor. the property wraps a lush central courtyard on three sides, where a raised basalt slab contains a swimming pool, sundeck, and space for outdoor activities. inside, a cantilevered grand staircase encircles a central atrium illuminated from above by a large oculus walkable skylight embedded in the outdoor roof terrace.

pentagon has shaped the exterior of ‘radius house’ as a mix of curved surfaces and crisp angles that give it a distinctive presence in an area recognized for expressive residential designs. lush landscaping by sarita jaccard design surrounds the property, while inside, the 4 bedroom, 4.5 bathroom home is characterized by a bright and airy atmosphere. the cantilevered grand stair becomes a central feature inside the main atrium, while a selection of refined finishes and materials plays with visual contrast and human scale. the walnut cladding of the curved shelving in the entry continues through the kitchen to the grand stair and central atrium, wrapping upwards to the roof. meanwhile, venetian plaster walls give the residence a luminous continuity and a handcrafted quality throughout. finally, the los angeles-based studio has selected radiant heated concrete for the first floor, and european white oak wood for the second, which bring a feeling of comfort and warmth to both common and private spaces.
