wooden structure runs along the hill’s terrain

Viconsa, Boslan, and Arkigest collaborate on the construction of a pedestrian wooden walkway in Bilbao, Spain. The designed walkway is supported by isolated pillars and built entirely of wood. The cross-section of the walkway that forms the path is two-meter wide and the maximum slopes are 8%, with landings every 20 m. The initial section is developed on a wooden structure that occupies the current pedestrian access to the Esclavas school.

walkway enjoys panoramic views of the city

Once the initial escarpment has been overcome, the route runs between the closure of the school and the crest of the road slope, expressly bypassing the anchor points of the slope protection mesh, and then climbs the slope until it ends at the existing path to the summit. Two viewpoints with wooden structures are placed along the route. Viconsa, Boslan, and Arkigest studios aim to install wooden benches for resting and contemplation. The railing in front of the viewpoints will be made of laminated and tempered glass, to facilitate panoramic views of the city of Bilbao for both people of short stature and people with reduced mobility.
