canadian design studio partisans has inserted an undulating waffle of plywood surfaces within an existing office building in toronto. the think tank, which totals an area of 240 square meters, occupies an upper level of the mies van der rohe-designed TD center.
the timber planes delineate the office, separating a central studio space from a series of private offices, boardrooms, a kitchen, and a lounge along its edges. as the wooden surfaces arch outwards, they give way to the glass walls that define the offices – a transition that helps create a sense of openness and transparency. consequently, the relatively small units feel much larger, offering each employee outward views beyond their desk.
