OMA designs immersive chinese pavilion at venice art biennale

renowned architecture practice OMA has released photographs of their design for the chinese pavilion at the venice art biennale 2015 curated by the beijing contemporary art foundation. the exhibition itself showcases the pieces all under the theme of ‘other future’ and utilizes a series of stages with projection screens serving as a backdrop. composer tan dun, artist lu yang and architect liu jiakun together have created work influenced by traditional chinese heritage, social reality, nature and classics meanwhile simultaneously blending their vision with contemporary music with dance.

the installation follows OMA’s recent involvement with la biennale di venezia, in which rem koolhaas directed the 14th international architecture exhibition, ‘fundamentals’, in 2014. the exhibition was designed by OMA asia in collaboration with curatorial advisor kayoko ota. the design team is led by dongmei yao, wanyu he, long yu, and michael kokora. the 56th international art exhibition runs from may 9, to november 22, 2015.
