Guarita’s House, designed by Oficina Conceito Arquitetura in Brazil, stands out with a simple yet striking form. The residence is characterized by a prominent stone base supporting a large exposed concrete bar that contains the intimate living areas, melding with nature. Its distinctive 5-meter overhang adds an intersecting visual dimension and serves as a carport. Upon arrival, residents are greeted by an access hall nestled between two stone volumes, separated by a door with a protective marquee made entirely of hardwood (grapia).

This same wood extends across the entire ceiling of the social areas, creating a warm, cohesive aesthetic that roots the space in nature. A central circulation axis organizes the program, distributing spaces for the kitchen, dining, living areas, and a suite. A courtyard creates a node for bringing in abundant natural light and ventilation, in addition to integrating the garden with the house to enhance the natural ambiance. Across the project, the architects have additionally incorporated sustainable features with thoughtful solar orientation and volumetric strategies, such as photovoltaic panels generating energy and a cistern capturing rainwater for garden irrigation.

the stone and wood volumes integrate lush vegetation

Lush vegetation surrounds the courtyard and conceals the bathroom windows, offering privacy without sacrificing views of the garden. The outdoor pool, enveloped by greenery, serves as a family gathering spot, offering relaxation with a view of the lake and seamless integration with the living spaces. Connecting with the balcony and back patio, the team at Oficina Conceito Arquitetura strategically positioned the parrilla (grill) connects with the balcony and back patio, ensuring it can be enjoyed year-round, even on the coldest winter days from within.

At the heart of Guarita’s House sits the kitchen, positioned in front of the courtyard to catch the eastern sunlight. A generous island with stools and a cooktop becomes a central hub, while the rear part of the kitchen efficiently uses space under the staircase leading to the second floor. This staircase ascends to a corridor on the south facade, providing access to three suites, each oriented to optimize views and sunlight, starting with the east front, passing through the north of the entire side facade, and ending with the sunset with a view of the lake in the suite. The light woody vinyl flooring here contrasts with the wood lining the social areas, achieving a balanced design. In the master suite bathroom, a soaking tub offers a final moment of relaxation before a restful night’s sleep.
