luminous wooden cylinders float above ODDO architects' 'pizza 4P'

ODDO architects completes its ‘pizza 4P’ interior among the ‘landmark 72’ high-rise in hanoi. with a population of over eight million, the capital city is seeing a transformation with increasing urbanization and a growing density. the location of the studio’s newly completed restaurant interior is relevant as the city’s number of high-rises will see a significant increase. pizza 4P’s brand makes up part of a smaller chain of restaurants which are known to grow their own organic vegetables and make their own cheeses in central vietnam. the team seeks to reflect this atmosphere of bespoke quality with the curation of its design-minded interior.

in the design of its pizza 4P restaurant interior, ODDO architects introduces seven wooden cylinders of varying sizes. these cylinders are anchored and suspended from the reinforced concrete slab above and structurally supported from below by T-columns. this strategy introduces rhythmic shadowing across the space while maximizing occupiable area for a larger number of customers. these cylinders are constructed of wooden blocks similar in size to traditional bricks used throughout northern vietnam. the blocks are assembled together with careful joinery to avoid the use of glue, allowing the wood to expand with changes in humidity.

the design team at ODDO architects realizes its pizza 4P interior in hanoi with a material palette that is low cost and locally sourced. these materials include a local species of fast-growing acacia, rattan, tanned wood surfaces, and sanded terrazzo. along the ground level, the project comprises renovated and repurposed furniture from another hanoi restaurant that had been since been closed. among the most distinctive furniture elements is a long dining table made of steel reinforcement bars in the shape of structural stirrups, with wood-concrete supporting legs, and a glass top to expose the table’s structure underneath.
