ODA completes clustered 'tower 1' along brooklyn waterfront at 420 kent

ODA introduces its newest completed project, tower 1 at 420 kent. while contemporary residential towers are typically characterized as rectangular extrusions, the new york-based firm introduces a multidimensional reinterpretation with the williamsburg project. ODA proposes and formalizes a tower where most dwelling units are a corner apartment in response to the traditional extruded typology which creates an inherent hierarchy — with the four corners being most desirable. characterized by a cluster of volumes clad in full height glazing, the project is situated along the brooklyn waterfront and offers each unit sweeping views across the city.

with 420 kent, ODA generates a formal condition which articulates architecture’s effect on enhancing dynamic skylines with towers and voids engaged in a conversation between figure and ground. by using two standard floor plans and mirroring them around the central axis, ODA generates three distinct towers — the first of which at 416 kent is newly completed. the 22-floor towers are comprised of 857 apartment units, twenty percent of which offer affordable housing and eighty percent of which will be in a corner condition.

by adding this third dimension to the envelope, ODA provides a platform for intimate moments of interaction, both indoors and out. units will boast northern sightlines onto the williamsburg bridge, the east river, and eastern vistas of downtown manhattan. kent’s promenade will add to the communal boardwalk which stretches from greenpoint in the north all the way to dumbo beneath the brooklyn bridge. the residential project offers a total of 77,000 square feet of outdoor space to residents.
