thai studio octane architect & designer has clad the k krit residence in bangkok in a façade of black unequal steel battens that ensure enough privacy from the public road in front. the house is designed for a newscaster who wanted a good looking modern dwelling, arranged according to feng shui ideas, and where he can host small parties of friends. the entire building, its room positions, access zones, and even the direction of the bedrooms respond to feng shui principles, while the parking lot is topped with a roof that doubles as an outdoor party deck for friends.all images by rungkit charoenwat

octane architect & designer has designed the residence according to the client’s requests for a modern dwelling characterized by privacy, peace, and safety. the project is developed according to feng shui, which, among other principles, prohibits any rooms above the parking lot. as such, the architects have instead placed an open deck above the parking lot, with its own stairs to host guests without having to pass through any room of the house. the living room is the center of everyday life and connects every part of the house.

through large sliding doors in the living room, the owner can enjoy a view of the pool and the garden of large trees, but he can also see his parents’ house, located beside his. the open space of the living room connects vertically space to his brother’s bedroom. hidden behind the battens of the house façade, the garden terrace allows the morning sunlight to pass through the interior, creating a unique shadows.

according to feng shui, the owner’s bedroom had to be placed at the front side of the house, which, however, would mean that it would be visible from the public road and lose its privacy. for this reason, octane designed a façade of unequal steel battens, that secure privacy without obscuring views from the interior of the house. the result is a modern house that appears calm with its black box shape at the front, and more playful and fun at the back.
