XXL monograph of Norman Foster

To coincide with the largest retrospective of Norman Foster’s work at the Centre Pompidou in Paris, luxury art book publisher TASCHEN has released Norman Foster – an XXL monograph that presents a lifetime of achievement. This comprehensive edition is the first time that the complete oeuvre of the architecture giant has been published, and it showcases his innovative and holistic approach to his craft.

In the book, Foster personally guides us through his most significant projects, including the Millennium Bridge and Apple Park. The first volume of the XXL monograph is packed with unpublished images and sketches that the renowned architect has handpicked, providing a unique and intimate insight into his creative process. Meanwhile, the second volume contains eight essays written by Foster that detail his sources of inspiration, adding a deeper layer of context to his impressive body of work.

A comprehensive exploration of Norman Foster’s life and work

This is the first time that the entire extensive work of Norman Foster (find more here) has been published in one edition on such a large scale. Published by TASCHEN (find more here), the book explores the architect’s personal approach to his work, his inspirations, the connection between art and architecture, and the meaning and connection between his passions, such as his enthusiasm for aviation, and his work, while providing a rare glimpse into the inner workings of his creative practice.

The book goes over the majority of Foster’s work, showcasing his career spanning across continents and over six decades. Featured projects include completed works such as the Apple Park campus in Cupertino, California, the Reichstag in Berlin, the enclosed court of the British Museum in London to the Millau Viaduct in France. In addition, the book also shows a selection of works in progress like the Row New York Boathouse, the Bilbao Museum of Fine Arts as well as the One Beverly Hills development in Los Angeles

inside the mind of a genius

Norman Foster is a visual journey not only through significant buildings of our time, but into the mind of a genius who has created celebrated landmarks distinguished by their inventive modernity and by what he calls ‘a sustainable approach to the design of the built environment’. Norman Foster has sketched every page of this book and spent countless hours with the author and graphic designer to make it one of the most remarkable architectural books ever published.

The book is also available as an Art Edition in an edition of 300 copies with a 1-meter-wide signed print of a drawing by Norman Foster showing the future InnHub multifunctional community and business center in La Punt, Switzerland. The two volumes of this edition are combined in a specially designed slipcase that folds out to form a book stand.
