all-black 'house M&M' in amsterdam is accessed via a giant sliding door

situated along the perimeter of funenpark in amsterdam, ‘house M&M’ by NEXT architects and claudia linders is easily recognized by its 30-meter-long black façade. located just a few minutes’ walk from the city center, the project saw the transformation of an ‘old shack’ into a private residence complete with a studio and workspace. the dwelling is described as ‘an excellent example of how to create a unique, striking design that is informed by the specific characteristics of the surroundings.’

the black façade’s sleek lines and gold fencing were chosen by NEXT and linders to accentuate the house’s elongated form. internally, the open-plan scheme is accessed via a patio behind the gold fencing. living spaces surround a wooden core that contains washrooms and other facilities. meanwhile, sightlines along the entire length of the residence ensure an open interior and a smooth transition between indoor and outdoor space.
