wolfgang & hite designs double office scenario in new york

design practice wolfgang & hite has completed an office space for five separate companies within a retrofitted theater on bleecker street in new york city. the design generates a double office scenario where large scale graphics connect the complex program, while vertical design elements emphasize the scale of the double-height space, elevating the workspace of the global creative production agency north six and its affiliated businesses. the ground floor is designed to make you look up and appreciate the volume of the interior. the basement is inspired by first-class airplane lounges, with 70s neo-futuristic elements and illuminated strips decorating a series of multi-colored wool-wrapped sound panels.

white ground floor interior with silver patterns

on the ground floor, silver paint patterns wrap the white interior, enclosing the viewers as if they were inside ‘an expanding andy warhol mylar balloon’ as wolfgang & white mentions. what’s more, the designers have added a series of different vertical elements to accentuate the height of the space. a custom nine-globe light fixture lowers a 16-foot mirrored plane above a massive poured concrete communal work table. meanwhile, a 19-foot high thin steel lattice reaches the ceiling, levitating a multilayered colored concrete monolith at eye level where the office identities are displayed at the entry.

the wall patterns fold into a two-tone diagram in thin-set concrete micro-topping on the floor, as radiused pathways separate communal tables and workstations, serving as wayfinding to the upper and lower floors. a tributary leads up the stairs to office mezzanines and two others spill down to the lower level where the patterns continue in large format custom shapes of warm whites and golds.

basement editing suites with 70s inspired aesthetics

the lower level primarily houses editing suites and office spaces for state-of-the-art post-production company assembly. the design transports the visitor to a different era, where the latest production technology finds a home in a series of client-oriented color editing suites inspired by 70s neo-futuristic influences and psychedelic aesthetics. the high-end acoustical detailing of the four suites is resolved in unique spatial configurations of telescoping, vividly colored wrapped wool sound panels, which pose against a backdrop of regionally-sourced walnut paneling and intricate woodworking details.
