tucked away on a street in aoyama, tokyo, is the ‘beauty library’ designed by nendo– an organic beauty boutique-meets-café. illustrated by the organized, wooden shelves that run the length of the store, as the shop name suggests, the interior layout are based loosely on a library. furthermore, a ‘self-study’ feature enables customers to sit at tables that have been integrated into the shelving compartments which display the vibrantly colored beauty products.
the service and retail space is based on a concept that fuses the elements of cosmetics with food & drink

set among a simple backdrop of materials and colors, the beauty library gives customers freedom and a relaxed experience while shopping. a tablet device is available for browsing through information for the products. meanwhile, with a salad bar and café running adjacent to the display areas of the store, customers can enjoy a drink at the same time. by having food and cosmetics side by side, this concept was established based on the notion that inner and outer beauty is connected.
