nelson resende renews fractured property with house renovation in northern portugal

located in ovar, portugal, this house renovation by nelson resende breathes new life into a fractured property that was failing to reach its full potential. the intervention proposes using as much as possible of the existing building, while introducing a new logic of continuity rather than rupture.

in the existing property, nelson resende found indications of different treatments and states of conservation before deciding what to save and what to remove. after the renovation, a choice of materials, richness of construction, and the scale of the rooms themselves distinguish each other, ensuring a greater sense of space.

leaning against the adjacent buildings, the property borders an access road, permitting a peripheral occupation of the blocks while liberating the interior. social spaces within the house occupy the main focus, while in the secondary structure, a garage faces the street and the area of private use within the house. an outbuilding is used for laundry and storage.
