MW archstudio's tree-filled house in vietnam is topped with a secluded roof garden

in nha trang, a coastal city in southern vietnam, MW archstudio has completed a narrow three-storey property topped with a secluded roof garden. titled ‘204 house’, the residence is located in a densely populated area with a large amount of vehicular traffic. the dwelling has been designed to maximize natural light and ventilation, so that artificial light (during the day) and air conditioning are not required. meanwhile, energy efficient LED lights are used at night.

in addition, MW archstudio’s design recycles rainwater to refresh the trees and the other locally sourced vegetation that contribute towards residents’ general well-being. ‘apart from being useful for the house dwellers, the plants also contribute to improve the micro-weather,’ explain the architects. ‘on that basis, this creates a balance and sustainability in the relationship between human, the architectural structure and the surrounding environment.’

the home’s gates at ground level feature tree-shaped openings

adjoining the street, a garage is found at ground level alongside a kitchen, a dining room, and the master bedroom. overlooking the street, primary living accommodation is positioned above and is joined by an entertainment area and another bedroom. two further bedrooms are found at the uppermost storey, alongside a place for worship. a secluded garden is found on the roof. establishing a sense of nature throughout the home, trees punctuate the floorplates at various intervals.
