mountain poetic provides bamboo landmark architecture in china

‘mountain poetic’ is a project whose design background is to provide a landmark landscape architecture for the rice fields in yixing, lianhua dang, china, an area that is nationally known for its exemplary agricultural base. the town’s government wanted to build characteristic structures for their cultivated fields that can also double as duck sheds. the scheme selected and used the hexagon as the basic pattern, dividing it into large, medium and small sizes. through the repetition and superposition of these geometrical forms, an artistic effect is generated.

the hexagonal structures vary in size, and when seen from a distance they resemble a hill. the program was designed to give the erections different functions including a resting place for visitors and a duck shed. it combines the idea of watching ducks as well as enjoying the landscape. local bamboo was the main construction material and the project took less than a month to reach a completion state. after the framework was done, a group of people wove bamboo strips to cover the hexagon with the help of craftsmen. the whole process was not only about experiencing the construction of a structure, but also a way of communicating and incorporating the community.
