presenting the morphosis-designed crow museum

The Crow Museum of Asian Art of the University of Texas at Dallas presents an exhibition dubbed ‘Cast: Molding a New Museum for UT Dallas,’ which offers a first look at the museum’s second location designed by Morphosis. This second location is currently under construction on campus and will become part of the larger ‘Edith and Peter O’Donnell Jr. Athenaeum,’ a twelve-acre cultural district comprising two art museums and a performance hall. Overall, the masterplan will mark a new threshold to the UT Dallas campus.

The exhibition is currently on view and will run until March 5th 2023 at the founding site of the Crow Museum, located in the Dallas Arts District at 2010 Flora Street. Phase I of the Athenaeum project, which includes the Crow Museum, is expected to complete spring 2024.

a glimpse into the design process

The Morphosis exhibition offers a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the concept and planning process for the Crow Museum. This includes significant writing and original design conceived by the late Dr. Richard C. Brettell, who initiated plans for the Athenaeum and was integrally involved in the selection of Morphosis.

Curated by the museum’s senior director Amy Hofland and co-created by the Crow Museum and Morphosis, the show spotlights how ideas become spaces for engagement and learning, all through the lens of the renowned studio.

We are forging the northern expansion of the Crow Museum of Asian Art within the greater concept of the Athenaeum – one museum, two locations,’ says Hofland. ‘This growth for the Crow Museum will allow us to be more accessible and relevant to the campus, which boasts a significant Asian American student population, but also the growingly diverse communities within the North Texas region.
