located in caltron, a small village in northern italy, this timber structure has been designed to provide local residents with a community space for functions and events. completed by mirko franzoso, the scheme was chosen as part of an invited competition, open to architects and designers under the age of 35. measuring a total of 400 square meters, the social house serves as a link between the historic town and the surrounding landscape, referencing the form of the region’s vernacular architecture.

the project is located in caltron, a small village in northern italy

the project has been conceived as an extension of the town’s urban fabric, with natural materials used throughout. described by the architect as ‘simple’, the compact structure emerges from a solid base, nestled into the region’s sloping topography. the elevated interior space presents sweeping views across the picturesque scenery, with a flexible open-plan layout that can be adapted to suit a range of programs.
