messana o’rorke has designed a series of three cosmetic health care stores for malin+goetz in LA, new york and santa monica. each interior follows a color coded scheme, which dictates the overall scheme of the layout, forming a unified identity across each store. the studio noted the existing environment of each location, developing a unique scheme that would respond to the demographic population and needs of the target group.

the new york store accommodates to the upper east side demographic by providing a traditional customer experience. a clean cut layout was introduced, using 16 foot free-standing shelving units, reflecting the condensed NYC urban environment. for the LA store, messana o’rorke focused on the window display by developing an all-encompassing ribbon structure which could be seen from the exterior.

the final store located in santa monica, is housed within a semidetached ‘retail cottage’ which granted the studio more room. this feature however presented three times more space than necessary to retail the M+G product lines. messana o’rorke reduced the space by a third, by introducing a marble wall – a material that points towards the brand’s apothecary heritage.
