‘camping marina di venezia’ is a reinterpretation of traditional camping bungalows–a sustainably designed vacation resort by italian architect matteo thun. located in cavallino treporti near venice, italy the holiday spot offers moments that are both quiet and exciting. the 70 hectare size park features 32 patio-style ‘garden villas’ that redefine typical camping typology, while offering the highest in european environmental standards. an overall master plan includes the bungalows, spacious areas for campers and caravans, a beach, and a high-level environmental management system. botanically influenced and energy-efficient, the architecture respects the location’s natural features – based around existing pine trees, the plan and building arrangement is integrated into the surrounding landscape.

each wooden villa is composed of two opposing volumes, connected in-between by an open courtyard and sheltered terrace space. constructed from wood-cement blocks the material offers both thermal and acoustic insulation, with the exterior facade’s larch-wood cladding giving each villa an individual appearance due to its contingent properties. views from the interior living spaces offer a relaxing and comfortable retreat into nature, as wide double-glazed windows help to blur the boundary between the architecture and its garden.
