masquespacio combines brick arcs + bold colors within hamburger restaurant in milan

after presenting their collaborative exhibition with italian terracotta artisan poggi ugo during the milan design week 2019, now spanish studio masquespacio returns to milan with its first interior design project for the ‘bun’ hamburger chain. the aim of the project was to create an identity with a clear focus on the younger generations, and at the same time represent a more sophisticated approach for a high-quality burger restaurant.

the design by masquespacio seeks to create an innovative concept showcasing the authenticity of ‘bun’, that differs from the vintage & industrial look of other hamburger chains. the team used gold touches and terrazzo tiles, mixed with a splash of color to generate a both sophisticated, and fresh interior. the project itself starts from the investigation of the pre-existing spatial elements, with the aim to integrate them into the new aesthetic.

 ‘when we saw the beautiful bricks and arcs from the space it was evident for us that we would use these elements as the starting point of the design,’ says ana hernández, creative director of masquespacio. to create a uniform aesthetic throughout the space, the team installed additional arc forms in green and purple, some entirely independent while others highlight the original interior structures. in order to complete the space, wooden tabletops, as well as plants are placed in the restaurant, representing the healthy and zero plastic identity of ‘bun’.
