marty chou architecture has completed the design of a residence located in taiwan, for a private client. given the name ‘the mermaid’s apartment, the owner desired to live in a place, ‘less like a home, more like a sanctuary.’ the resulting project therefore uses dreamy tones and colors to create a sumptuous interior.

during the design stage, the architect was inspired by the serene image of a mermaid and started to evolve the project around it. the image of the mermaid has been employed as the focal point and anchor of the space, the tone of the ambiance, and the source of the semi-monochrome palette. in the hallway, there even sits a small sculpture of this inspiration.
the interior uses very light colors, dominated by white. this palette results in a clean and open space. luxurious materials have also been used to form an elegant feeling. white marble combined with white finished wood and dashes of black and metal create an altogether elegant setting for the client to enjoy.
