marià castelló explores a kit of parts to be endlessly reconfigured as 'architecture fragments'

marià castelló introduces his latest exhibition ‘architecture fragments,’ a project which transcends different mediums, including drawing, photography, sculpture and architecture. the architect describes his work as a series of concrete paintings, plaster projections, or dreamlike architectures. the works that make up this collection have been carried out between 2019 and 2020, paying tribute to the historical and contemporary architectural heritage of the spanish island of formentera. the resulting series comprises architectural objects full of nuances with great material uniformity.

architect marià castelló assembles his ‘architecture fragments’ exhibition as a kit of parts suggesting both planar and sectional projection. the artistic project makes use of these typical building elements are in a way that can be rearranged, allowing for the generation of an endless set of possible configurations. this hybridization of planar and sectional components results in a series of unusual and extraordinary relationships and spatial possibilities to be playfully discovered.

most of marià castelló’s ‘architectural fragments’ are executed with a single material to emphasize the harmony of the elements. the components are mainly fabricated of concrete and plaster. many of the pieces are inscribed in the 20x5x20 centimeter format, a module that would allow for the construction of larger-scale structures and landscapes when aggregated. the exhibition is made possible thanks to the help and consultation of architect lorena ruzafa tur, cultural promoter manolo oya, and artist elena vinyarskaya.
