american designer michael arellanes II has submitted a proposal for the ‘new taipei city museum of art’ design competition to be located south of taipei city, taiwan. harmonizing to form fluid patterns, this collection of dynamic components and membranes assemble to create multifunctional surfaces and structures. using air and water as a visual point of departure, the facade contains layers for thermal ambience and energy within the triangular and octagonal framework.

as one enters into the main lobby, the structural steel and glass encompasses a full building height atrium filled with natural daylight and efficient ventilation through the external skin. open escalators and bridges bringing together and connect the diverse program of galleries, café, bookstore, theater, and urban resonance. as one proceeds to the higher levels, there are curved walls which direct the circulation path and allow the viewer to discover the complexity of the structure and displayed art. a crystalline exhibition hall is constructed by poly-valiant structures for creating an intense space of activity. a bridge intended for exhibits utilizes filtered light to illuminate galleries and sculpture along a dynamic path.
