Casa Alferez by Ludwig Godefroy

Peeking through the lush Mexican forest, Ludwig Godefroy’s Casa Alferez emerges as a concrete residence with an imposing protective character. The monolithic holiday house stands in contrast to its natural surroundings, establishing its powerful presence and functional brutalism. The eye-catching exterior integrates angled concrete slabs, projecting windows, and slender openings that create striking visual effects inside the house. The interiors exhibit a distinct sculptural character, with raw materials and finishes that nonetheless create a comfortable living environment.

mysterious, closed-off exterior transforms into playful interior

Casa Alferez is located deep in the heart of the forest, secluded from other buildings. Ludwig Godefroy (find more here) has created a design with an austere, introverted character. The robust concrete walls and limited openings in the upper part of the structure create a mysterious atmosphere around the residence.

To break the seriousness of the exterior, the interior shows a playful character with an open layout and multiple levels. Columns, slabs, platforms and skylights invite residents to explore the space and open up a variety of possibilities within the living environment. The transparency of the design ensures that occupants can maintain visual contact in all rooms and at all times. Protrusions on the concrete walls are repurposed into furniture such as tables and beds, creating a seamless character within the home. A recessed landing with a sofa becomes the central lounge area in the living room. Wood finishes complete the material and texture palette of the overall rough interior, giving it a cozy feel.
