the royal institute of british architects (RIBA) has announced that six teams have been selected to take part in a competition for the redevelopment of the LSE’s (london school of economics and political science) 44 lincoln’s inn fields site, which will be known as the paul marshall building. according to the initial project brief, the new building should ‘play a key role in promoting the values, ethos and brand of the school’, while ‘inspiring future generations of students and academics’. the scheme requires adaptable teaching and research workspaces that combine old and new methods of student-centered learning and academic scholarship.

the full competition brief will be issued in january 2016, with the winning team selected from the submissions. following its redevelopment, the new building will house a number of academic and research departments including the marshall institute for philanthropy and social entrepreneurship. earlier this year, a proposal from rogers stirk harbour + partners to redevelop the LSE’s aldwych campus, received planning permission from local authorities.
