link arkitektur completes the norwegian school of economics

surrounded by rocky boulders on the shores of bergen city, ‘the norwegian school of economics’ by local studio link arkitektur has been designed around the notion of a hidden gem. complex planning restrictions meant the building needed to be as compact and low as possible – a protected high-rise on the site prohibited any new development from either competing visually, or disturbing set views. glass facades were used to reflect the surrounding landscape, forming an ever-changing exterior surface. behaving as a large canvas, the varying rhythm of the panels seeks to express and emphasize certain aspects of the site. following a compact and logical layout, link arkitektur also worked on the interior, incorporating colorful, geometric furniture throughout. a core of large lecture halls with study areas placed around them are orientated towards incoming daylight, ensuring multiple outside views for the students. the project was completed in collaboration with sweco engineers and smedsvig landskapsarkitekter, with the overall scheme focusing on flexibility and environmental solutions.
