limdim house studio has built ‘jalousie house’ on a narrow-shaped plot in hue city, vietnam. the family dwelling is clad in two distinct façades that make sure its interior receives enough natural light and air at all times. the front side of the building incorporates a folded wall, complete with horizontal windows, while the back side features an inhabitable, plant-filled ventilation gap consisting of a breeze block system and glass windows on the inside.limdim house studio inserts plant-filled ventilation gap in this narrow house in vietnamall images by quang dam

‘jalousie house’ is located on a seven-meter (west-facing) by 14-meter (south-facing) plot in hue city, surrounded by similar narrow-shaped houses. in order to make sure the residence receives enough natural light and air, limdim house studio created the two distinct façades. the folding pattern wall on the front façade blocks harsh sunlight and helps the building cope with the heavy rain during winter, while still letting fresh air in and out smoothly. additionally, the folds contribute to the unique shape of the residence, making it stand out from its surroundings.limdim house studio inserts plant-filled ventilation gap in this narrow house in vietnam

the back side of the house features the breeze blocks wall, which brings air and light into the house while preventing the effect of excessive heat in the summer, and the freezing rain in the winter. this system is combined with a skylight and glass openings in the inner façade, which ensure that the distribution of sunlight is enough during daytime. ‘by taking advantage of the skylight and ventilation system at back side, we plant the in-house garden right after the breeze blocks wall to create green layer for the house,’ notes limdim house studio.limdim house studio inserts plant-filled ventilation gap in this narrow house in vietnam

the in-house garden acts as natural air-conditioning, making the air cooler and cleaner before entering the house, as well as reducing the heat caused by solar radiation. this garden also provides open green views from bedrooms and bathrooms, giving the homeowners a relaxing, feeling immersed in nature. at the same time, a green grass carpet is planted on the second floor balcony, where the young parents can spend quality time with their family and friends.limdim house studio inserts plant-filled ventilation gap in this narrow house in vietnam
